Healthy All Year at Glenmore

Grab your sneakers and go!

Grab your sneakers and go!

It’s hard to believe that it’s February. Wasn’t it just yesterday that we were ringing in the new year?

And now that we are halfway through the second month of 2015, today’s question for you is: How are you doing with your New Year’s resolutions?

It’s possible that, like many people, you are resolved to be fit and healthy this year. Luckily for Glenmore residents, there are a number of ways for you to be active every day throughout 2015 and beyond:

  • Fitness center – Whether you want to stretch out with some yoga, strengthen with Pilates, work on your grace and agility with Barre, or pump up your cardio with spin class, the Fitness Center has options for you every day of the week. If you are interested in private one-on-one training, yoga, or tai chi, email Laura at ldevine@glenmorecountryclub.com.
  • Golf – Both the driving range and the golf course are great places to get some fresh air while working on your swing.
  • Tennis – Yes, the courts are open even in the winter! And the tennis pros are always offering different classes to help you improve your game. To register for private lesson, email Mark at mryman@glenmorecountryclub.com
  • Aquatics – Okay, so the pools are closed right now, but that’s okay because spring really isn’t all that far off, and in the meantime, you have plenty of other fitness options.
  • Trails – With the exception of the immediate aftermath of a snowfall, the trails are just steps from your front door and always ready for you to visit.

So what are you waiting for? Get out!

Take a Hike In and Around Glenmore

Imagine starting your day off with a winter walk on the Rivanna Trail and having these views of Montalto (left) and Monticello (right)

Imagine starting your day off with a winter walk on the Rivanna Trail and having these views of Montalto (left) and Monticello (right)

One of the many great things about living in Glenmore is that there are so many ways to be physically active throughout the year.

One particular gem is the ring of trails that surrounds the neighborhood. Covering more than 1,300 acres, the Glenmore country trails offer something for everyone.

Feel like walking along a river? Then the Rivanna Trail is perfect for you.

Looking for some solitude in the woods? Try the wooded beauty of the Carroll Creek trail.

Live on the eastern edge of the community? Then step out your front door and onto the Camp Branch Trail.

Want to go on a quick walk with your children? Give the Bluebird Trail a try.

Want to see it all from horseback? Then you should definitely explore the trails around the Equestrian Center.

Even though the weather is cold, there’s no reason not to bundle up and head outside today!

Meet Your Realtor: Kathy Conlon

kathyconlon2Originally from New Jersey, and a graduate of the University of Maryland, veteran agent Kathy Conlon has been in Virginia since 1989 and joined the Real Estate III team in 1991. She has been been working in the Glenmore office for well over a decade, is a three time recipient of the Better Homes and Gardens National “Emerald Elite” Award, and a foreclosure and REO specialist.

What is your favorite thing about Glenmore? My favorite thing about Glenmore is all the green grass! Whether its the golf course view or the Equestrian center, the greenery is so scenic. From my desk I can see the 13th fairway.

What is your secret superpower? I can cram more into a day than most people do in five days. I cover a huge area — from Augusta County to Goochland County and everywhere in between — this basically is Central Virginia. I also can easily adapt to anything (type of homes, people, areas, situations, etc.).

What do you like to do for fun? I love to run (ideally on the beach, barefoot) and I love the ocean. I have completed 13 marathons (26.2 miles) and six half marathons (13.1 mi) in Virginia Beach. My favorite quick day getaway is Virginia Beach and long vacation would be in Florida where I have family.

What would your perfect day be like? No phone calls/texts waking me up early in the morning, no e-mails, no Broker Price opinions to do for the banks, no deadlines I have to meet, and I am sitting on a beach somewhere where it is 85 degrees and sunny.

To talk with Kathy about buying or selling a home, you can reach her at 434-531-2225 or realtor1va@aol.com.

Charlottesville Named Number 16 on List of Best College Towns

0gIZ7lvajT8UQ_5It is well known that Central Virginia is a lovely place to live — so much so that Charlottesville is often among the locations mentioned on “Best of” lists.

The most recent accolade came last month, when Best College Reviews listed Charlottesville at #16 on their list of Best College Towns.

We agree that our hometown is wonderful — but we would have listed it at #1.

And to all a good night

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
